Focus conferences are all about the immediate future of legal services. The legal market is changing at a faster pace than ever before. New technologies and evolving business practices are constantly creating new challenges and opportunities for the modern law firm.

Presented annually by FC/DC, the Focus conference is the place to go to keep up with cutting-edge issues and developments impacting modern top law firms. It is also the place to be to help shape the industry’s response to these developments. Focus is not just an event for learning about the future of the law; it’s a forum for the thought-leaders of the industry to come together and discuss that future. Each year Focus will cover a range of topics related to the evolving legal profession, as well as highlighting an issue of particular currency for discussion that year.

This first year, the highlighted topic at Focus is the shifting relationship between inside and outside counsel. Large corporations are moving more matters in-house than ever before, and legal-adjacent service providers like accounting and consulting firms are also increasingly taking on issues traditionally reserved for outside counsel.

More than ever before, it’s time to bridge the gap between inside and outside counsel. Focus: InsideOut will give both sides of the divide an opportunity to discuss why matters are moving in-house and what outside counsel can do to retain those matters or explore new partnership opportunities.

In early 2017, FC/DC: Legal Frontiers was founded by Fastcase and the D.C. Bar as a joint venture for the sole purpose of producing and managing the annual Focus conference. Our goal is not only to produce an excellent conference each year, but also to raise the bar for content and programming at legal events and conferences.

We hope to set an example for how legal conferences, CLEs, and meetings can be done better; with higher production value, better speakers, and more interesting content.

Fastcase provides industry-leading tools to make legal research easier and more intuitive. Lawyers, law firms, and bar associations across the country trust Fastcase to provide them with comprehensive access to the law through an innovative and award-winning platform. We help forward-thinking lawyers navigate the law faster and smarter, to democratize legal services.

How to Apply:

FC/DC is looking for speakers with something to say about what’s coming next in the legal industry. Have you spotted a trend in legal practice? Have you created a new product or technique that might revolutionize a sector of the legal economy? Are you working on improving access to justice or the quality of lower-income legal services? We want to hear about it.

Use This Form to send us a brief description of what you’d like to talk about. It’s alright if you haven’t yet fully written-out your presentation or materials. If you’re selected, FC/DC will assist you in getting your talk ready and preparing your visual aids.

Your Presentation should focus on a subject related to the near future of legal practice. Most speakers accepted here will be given a 5-7 minute time-slot, so please plan accordingly.

Questions about becoming a speaker should be directed to Jeffrey Asjes, Focus Conference coordinator at Fastcase. | 202.999.4972
